Focus or lack there of is one of the major contributing factors to failure in the new home business. The business, be it home based, MLM or brick and mortar doesn’t matter. The problem lies with to many the new business owner being overwhelmed with too many tasks and never really focusing on one until complete or rather successful. Robert Kiyosaki defines FOCUS as an acronym meaning “Follow One Course Until Successful”. The first time I read that, it was like somebody turned a light on in my head. It finally occurred to me that building a business is not a race, but a process of building a business one step at a time. In my MLM business I had been trying so many different things at once, that I never realized the full potential of any one task.
Here’s what I’m going to cover in the ariticle:
1. Why the new business owner should not spend time trying to recruit new associates in their first 60 days.
2. What to focus on to start generating immediate income for the new home business owner.
3. The first three steps to build a successful MLM or home business using the internet.
First and foremost, decide what task will start to bring immediate income into you’re your home business. Obviously singing up a new associate is the goal for most in the MLM or internet based home businesses. But all of these businesses have some type of product or service that they offer. Take your first 60 days and sell some product; that will start providing some immediate income so that you can turn your focus to finding associates. Yes, I know that the immediate profit is small and residual income is where the real money is, but you have to start generating some income, so that you can reinvest your money into areas that will give you greater profits. Hint: Those that buy you’re your product or service and like what you have to offer have the greatest potential to become a new associate (that’s a topic for another day).
Now that we have decided to start selling some product, if you are in a MLM please Forget Your Friends And Family, three foot rule or any other MLM hallmarks of marketing. Friends and family are just that, they are not your customers and if you don’t try to recruit them into your new business they will stay that way. As for handing out business cards and stopping people that you run into, you are wasting your time and money. First focus your attention on getting a landing page or a lead capture page. This is simply a website where your prospects will put in their information to get more information about something you have to offer. I prefer a lead capture page over a one page sales letter with something to buy at the bottom. With the lead capture page you are building a valuable list of potential customers down the road. If you are in a internet home business that supplies you a lead capture page you are one step ahead of the game.
Next you need to test your site to find out if your customers are interested enough in what you said to either submit their information or buy your product. To do this you have to drive traffic to your site with either a pay per click campaign, article marketing, email campaign and so on. Pay per click can be costly, but it is necessary to drive large amounts of traffic to your site and at the end of the day building a business is simple mathmatics, the more traffic you get, the more your message is exposed, the more customers you will ultimately get. Articles are free and provide a great source of traffic for your site and should absolutely be used in conjunction with a pay per click campaign.
Now that your site is up and you are driving traffic, you need to focus on conversions. The amount of people that click on your site and buy or submit their information vs. the number of prospects who click on you ad and take no action. If you are not converting your prospects at 3-5% you need to adjust your message. It may be the headline, the copy the way your message is written or just how it looks on the page. That however is up to you to figure out and remember, Follow One Course Of Action Until Successful.
